HTC Touch HD to be an Orange exclusive

October 27, 2008 by TheGadgetStylist · Leave a Comment

The HTC Touch HD is to launch exclusively with Orange in early November.  They’ll be the only UK network selling the Touch HD until early 2009 at least in an attempt to rival the exclusive smartphone deals of their main rivals; O2’s iPhone, Vodafone’s Blackberry Storm, and T-Mobile’s G1 Google phone. 3 just seem happy to have the Nokia N96 available immediately at launch.

Pay as you Go Packages

October 6, 2008 by MattRatcliffe · Leave a Comment

Recently Orange have brought out New animal packages for pay as you go phones, they are four different packages that give the customer a wide range of variety. The four packages are Dolphin, Canary, Racoon and Camel, which can be used on a wide variety of mobile phones.

The Dolphin package includes free texts to any network and free access to facebook via WAP. The package offers 300 texts every £10 you top up, 600 texts every £20 you top up and if you top up £30 you get unlimited texts for the month (fair usuage policy does apply) but this offer seems to be very appealing.

The Canary package offers free evening and weekend calls, by topping up £10 you get 120 evening and weekend minutes, by topping up £20 you get 180 evening and weekend minutes and by topping up £30 you get 240 evening and weekend minutes. This offer is perfect for the mobile phone consumer who needs to talk to people directly or perfect for the consumer who mainly uses they phone for evening and weekend calls.

By selecting the Racoon package calls to any network cost 15p per minute at anytime. Also by selecting this package gives you texts to any network, anytime for 10p. This offer allows the consumer to gain the benefits of cheap calls and texts, although this offer maybe right for particular customers. I think that this particular package doesn’t offer value for money and for a frequent user of a mobile phone there are better offer for pay as you go customers.

Finally the Camel package offers the consumer calls to over 50 countries from 5p a minute and 20p calls and 10p texts to any networks in the Uk at any time. This offer is clearly useful for the consumer who calls abroad frquently, but not if the consumer is to use calls and texts within the United Kingdom.

October 2, 2008 by MattRatcliffe · Leave a Comment

802546409-150x150 Championship Manager 2008 On Your MobileChampionship Manager 2008 is the latest version of the ever popular series specifically designed for mobile handsets. Select a team and turn them into trophy-winning heroes! Results are everything - the club’s board will want to see a return on any transfer investment. Boasting a worldwide list of players and teams Championship Manager 2008 elevates the series to new heights. This game is applicable to most handsets that have java game software installed within the handset. The game was released on 01/02/08 and has been a massive hit with over 10,000 people subscribing to the game, resulting in a 7.5/10 rating. I have played this game on my handset and it has kept me entertained for hours while on long journeys. The downside to this game is that depending on your handset it can be very slow and if you are a fan of ‘Championship Manager’ its not the same as the PC or xbox versions. But within the mobile gaming world this is a step up from most.

T-Mobile G1 Android: The Demo of the Features

October 2, 2008 by MattRatcliffe · Leave a Comment

The T-Mobile G1 Android size is 4.6 x 2.16 x 0.63 inches, weighs in at 5.6 ounces, obviously has 3G, has 5 hours talk time with 130 hours on standby, GPS, features a 480 x 320 HVGA display and has a 3.1 megapixel camera, this G1 also supports up to 8GB memory although no formats have been specified yet.

The downside of the T-Mobile G1 Android phone is that it doesn’t have stereo Bluetooth and it won’t do video capture, you will require a Gmail account and the weirdest thing is that they are saying that the T-Mobile G1 Android phone will not be sold at stores outside of a 2.5 mile radius of T-Mobiles 3G coverage area.

If anyone purchases an T-Mobile G1 in the near future please give us some feedback on your opinion of this new model.

T-Mobile are running a competition to win a G1 at their website.

Using A Mobile To Your Advantage

October 2, 2008 by MattRatcliffe · Leave a Comment

LG’s next release in its “Black Label” series is the Shine. Like the Chocolate, the LG Shine is a slide-design phone, and is very much intended as a fashion statement. Whereas the Chocolate was dark and mysterious, with its hidden touch sensitive keypad, the Shine positively sparkles with light and has a more conventional keypad. The reason for the name “Shine” is that the phone is highly reflective, having a shiny stainless steel body and a large LCD display that turns into a mirror when not in use. It’s definitely a cool-looking phone and one that will attract attention. The photo here doesn’t do it justice. Be aware though that the metal casing does have a tendency to pick up fingerprints and scratches.

In terms of features, the Shine is not lacking. The camera has 2 megapixels and uses a Schneider-Kreuznach lens. The Shine does produce good quality pictures for a phone. The camera is equipped with autofocus, and has a light for night-time photography. It also has a video camera. The display is of high quality, being a TFT screen with 262,00 colours and 240 x 320 pixels - virtually the industry standard for high-end phones thesedays. As already mentioned, there’s an MP3 player that supports a wide range of file formats: MP3, AAC, AAC+ and AAC++. A stereo headset is supplied, and an optional stereo Bluetooth headset is also available. The LG Shine supports MicroSD memory cards with capacity of up to 2 Gbytes, so there’s plenty of storage for music. You could realistically use a phone like this as an iPod replacement. Other features worth noting are Java games, a fast EDGE connection for downloading data. The battery life of the Shine is probably a couple of days in normal use, although the battery indicator doesn’t seem to be very reliable.

We like the LG Shine, but it has more than its fair share of issues. It creates a very good first impression, with its metal and mirror looks, and when handling the phone, we get an impression of quality and durability. The stainless steel casing adds to the weight, but the phone is very slim and feels nice in the hand. Although, there are downsides to having a shiny metal phone: it scratches and gets covered in fingerprints, and the mirror screen is difficult to see in sunlight. The roller is simply unnecessary and annoying. The ringtone volume is too low and the reception seems to be worse than average. The Shine looks good, but just like the Chocolate, it’s not the most user friendly phone that you can buy.

To summaries the LG Shine Features include:

2 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens, autofocus, flash and 2x digital zoom
Video recorder
Display: TFT, 262,000 colours, 240 x 320 pixels
Stereo music player (MP3, AAC, AAC+ and AAC++ file formats)
MP3, AAC and AAC+ ringtones (40 voice polyphonic)
Messaging: SMS, EMS, MMS, Email
3D Java games
Document Viewer (.ppt, .doc, .pdf, .xls and .txt files)
Flight Mode
Caller ID (photo / video)
Connectivity: Bluetooth 1.2, USB
Memory: MicroSD memory card (up to 2 Gbytes)
WAP 2.0, EDGE
Triband
Size: 100 x 51 x 14 mm
Weight: 119g
Battery standby: 280 hours
